Road to Burlington hits a bump!

Today was one of those days that made me want to scream! I couldn’t run first thing this morning, so I decided to run at lunch time. One of the perks of my job is the allowance of 60 minutes to workout in conjunction with the beginning of the day, lunch or the end of the day. Anyhow, at 11:00 I set out for my run, while my legs felt great, my back didn’t feel so great. A day or so ago I was doing something and felt a tweak in my lower back. Well that little tweak was now pounding on my lower back with every strike of my foot on the pavement. My thought was to keep running in hopes to stretch it out. Wrong, this wasn’t going away! Damn!! Less than a quarter mile and I had to stop and walk back to work.

Anything to find positive about this frustrating setback? For me it I was just frustrated and a bit mad that I wouldn’t get my miles in for the week. One minor injury and I’m going nuts already! What’s wrong with this picture, I have 148 days ahead. Patients and trust have to come into play here, forcing myself to run through the pain will only lead to a bigger set back. Trusting the work I’ve done, will allow for me to miss a run or two and continue on to Burlington. So tomorrow morning I will get up early and set out to run my scheduled 4 miles. Hopefully the stretching, motrin and some foam rolling will do the trick and I’ll be good to go tomorrow. If my back is not ready, hopefully I will be smart and go back home and ice it. Any which way I have to learn to be mentally stronger as well.

Tomorrow is another day.
