Sunday Coffee and Chat

Good morning! Spring your clock forward! We are only a week away from the first official day of spring. How great is that! Spring is such a wonderful time for our psyche as it often renews our energy and winter becomes an almost distant memory. Great example of this is yesterday in Dover at the “Walk before your Crawl” 5K where there was nearly 1000 participants. That is certainly a huge turnout and is indicative of people ready to be out and active. Another factor may have been the mild winter encouraged people to run more frequently this winter and many were ready for an early season challenge. Of course another factor may have been the post-race crawl around the various Dover pubs as well. Regardless the reasoning it was a great spring type day and it is just the beginning. I did not participate in the “Run before you Crawl” race as I was with our “NFLR Winter Running Group,” doing our Saturday morning run and that was followed by a consultation that I will touch on next. The group run was awesome as we had a nice size group that totally enjoyed running on a beautiful sunny morning. Our runs along the Piscataqua River are quite enjoyable on most days but, sunny days are that much more pleasant. Running along Spur road is great for scenic value but, also minimal traffic means we can focus on running or carrying conversation without worrying about many automobiles hazards. Definitely a wonderful rout to run in Dover and conveniently located from the NFLR Center. The group yesterday seemed to get more energized as we progressed and by the time we were finished and doing our post run stretching the mood was really uplifting. Wonderful morning at the Center! Come join us next Saturday at 8:30! As I mentioned we had a consultation after our group run yesterday and I must say that it was one of the most enjoyable that I have ever done. I really like consultations as we get to talk running with so many great people and I cannot remember one consultation that I have not enjoyed. This one was with a young couple that also brought along their young daughter. While we talked running and goals, their daughter sat and watched an IPad. This couple had taken up running in 2015 and have done some amazing things with their overall health and I could not help but be impressed. We hear so much about obesity and weight problems and sitting in front of us was a couple that discussed a healthy life style with their doctor and took action! Both were on the same page in that now that they had run a half marathon they are intent on maintaining a healthy running life style. Not looking to conquer any special goals but, instead they wanted us to help them with a regular training plan that focused solely on healthy structured running. Really cool to work with young people that are so driven to be healthy through the enjoyment of running. I am so excited to have them as a part of NFLR. Today is some type of long run day and I will let my body tell me what that means. I would like to run 2 hours today but, we will see. Yesterday I felt pretty good running for 60 minutes so we will have to see how I fare today. This is going to be a great week for my running and overall fitness! Hope it is for you! Time to get along. Enjoy your Sunday and the extra daylight! God Bless! Mike
