Sunday Coffee and Chat about our new Destination Race training group

Good morning! One of the ideas we have talked about for some time here at NFLR, has been to develop a training group that would participate in a destination race. We have often thought it would be fun to train a group, spend a couple of days at the race location taking in the local food and spirits, and then go run a race. So here it is! Beginning this Thursday (August 6), at 6PM, NFLR is going to start the first of hopefully, many destination race training groups. Our first destination event will be the White Mountain Milers Half Marathon/ relay, in North Conway, NH on Sunday, 25 October. While the destination is not tremendously far away, it is a wonderful location and meets the criteria as far as scenic, fun, and unique. Another really cool aspect of this race, is that it offers not only a half marathon distance but, you can find a partner and split it in half as a relay. Jennifer Miller (my daughter and NFLR coach), suggested to me this brilliant idea of using this particular race as our first destination race training group. This race would allow us to offer training for both the half and those that want to train for the 10K relay. The first group meeting this Thursday night at the NFLR center, will be more about getting training information, signing up, and if time permits a short run! The difference with this group aside from the destination aspect, is that we are requiring those who want to train for 13.1 to currently be at 5 or 6 miles distance wise, and those that are going to take on the relay to be at 3 miles. Beginner groups are great and this may very well include first time runners of either of these race distances; however, having runners that have a base will allow for safe and fun training. This training group will offer training at the track, on hills and some fun pub runs around Dover. The reason we have pre-requisites for this group is so that we can begin the training at the level that will safely and enjoyably get all runners across the finish line. I have been leading training groups for many years and that experience has made it clear to me that it can be easy to compromise smart training because of limited training time. As the CEO of No Finish Line Running I am determined that we will not ever compromise proper training for any reason. We have a large group of certified coaches at NFLR that will guide this training group with the intent of having fun while safely preparing the runners for either distance. As I noted already, this training group will have many fun and helpful training runs, which will not only prepare the runners but have a great time while doing it! Thursday night’s will be track workouts, hill repeats or pub runs from various locations around Dover. Once a week (since last winter) we have been running from the “7th Settlement Brewery”, and that has worked really well; however, Dover has many great pubs and it would be great to enjoy them all. Saturday mornings (8:30) we will meet at the NFLR Center and run along the Piscataqua River and other great routes. We are definitely not looking for a certain type of runner, just those that are ready to have fun and improve from where they currently are at. If you, or anyone you know are interested or just curious, come on over to the Center on Thursday at 6pm and get more information and/or sign up. There will be a couple coaches there to answer questions from 6 to 6:30 and then an easy run to follow. The cost of this group is $99 and that gets you great training, discounts, a custom running shirt and much more… Another great option is to plan on staying up in North Conway on the night before the race as we have blocked rooms at the Hampton Inn near the race for only $119 per night. The idea would be for all of us to get together the night before and an enjoy dinner and a drink. This great rate is also available for a second night if like us you want to stay on for an additional day. Truly a destination event! There you go, something different that will be affordable and fun! Contact us at info@nofinishlinerunning.com, call at (603) 953-4992 or just come on over to the NFLR Center Thursday at 6pm for information and signing up. Have a great week and see you on the roads! God Bless! Mike
