Sunday Coffee and Chat

Good morning! Super Bowl Sunday and locally I am sure there a lot of tense fans eager for their Pats to dethrone the Seahawks. Being honest I am much less of a football fan than I was years ago, but I will definitely sit down with a dear relative and watch the game. As the years pass in my life I have become much less a fan of professional sports not only because of the enormous amounts of money spent but also because of my time and desire to utilize other ways. In any event, it should be a fun day for the New England faithful and an interesting day. The underlying story for me was the fact that Seahawk’s Coach Pete Carrol once served as the Patriots head coach and was not given a fair opportunity. While he would play that down, I have no doubt he is enjoying this opportunity. Just a little tidbit. I can’t remember a time when I have seen more gyms scattered about every community. Most call themselves something different and very few refer to them as “gyms”. Using different a different title is an attempt to pull in people with the idea that they are unique and offer a better concept of helping you get fit. I have no doubt that some are most definitely unique in how they go about presenting themselves but at the core of all gyms is getting people there to feel like they can help you better than the others. I am one person and have a very skeptical view but I do believe some gyms are better than others and sincerely want to help individuals get fitter. The problem I struggle with is that most gyms or fitness centers as they also referred to, are very narrow in their focus and they essentially give you a training plan or offer group classes that are not specific to activities that you might desire to get fitter for. Our runners and endurance athletes all need specific strength and conditioning training that helps them in the areas that their particular activity requires to run strong and healthy. A general workout definitely has some benefits but the reality is most gyms and fitness centers target non-specific muscles that may or may not help some aspect of your running or other endurance activities. Understanding the stress that our muscles are put under when we run, swim, bike, hike, walk or other similar activities is critical to targeting specific strength and conditioning. One of our goals when we opened the “No Finish Line Running Coaching & Endurance Resource Center” was to find the right resource for strength & conditioning. Fortunately through my own desire for myself personally as well as the people we work with I was able to finally find the perfect program and the person behind it. This was not easy by any means as I tried out various options that were often very costly and as I educated myself I continued searching without finding. I had heard through Runners Alley about Jasmin Lepir a local trainer who trained using something called S.M.A.R.T and I even read an informational handout that I found about his unique approach to training. My intentions were to reach out and have a further conversation but like many things I had to find the time. A few months later I was working with a local physical therapist and he asked if I knew of this trainer Jasmin Lepir and I told him that I actually did and he encouraged me to reach out to Jasmin as he would be helpful to my personal needs as a runner as well as those that we work with. Well that was the final push I needed to work a meeting into my schedule. That first meeting with Jasmin instantly put the perfect resource into my lap! Jasmin’s understanding of our body’s functions and how to determine our need for improved strength and conditioning of the actual muscles needed to run or participate in any endurance sport was by far superior to any person or gym that I had researched or attended. His simple no frills approach made sense and I now knew I found what I have been looking for. The first steps for me was to work with Jas myself and see if he could help me and how his training might benefit NFLR. I will be honest, I signed up for 4 sessions and I am still short one because of my schedule, but his specificity is training is exactly what I need for healthier running. Not long after we started working together I begin working on the center and started discussing my desire for the right strength and conditioning person to partner with. Jas was interested in the concept and we both felt that our mutual desire to help runners and endurance athletes was the perfect fit. The evening we shook hands and agreed on partnering at the areas first running and endurance resource center, I was ecstatic! Having a strength and conditioning trainer of Jamin’s knowledge, education and experience that truly understand the specific needs of runners/ endurance athletes was a huge piece of the center! The difficulty we now have is how to get you all to understand why Jas is different than those gyms or trainers that you might be trying to utilize now? I totally believe Jas is better equipped to help runners and endurance athletes based on his approach and specific training. Thirty minutes with him is more valuable to you and your goals than most any gym you will go to. Pretty bold statement I know but if your goal is to run healthy and stronger, you need to equip yourself the right way. Saturday February 7th at 10am Jasmin will hold a free seminar at the center that will allow for you to hear for yourself how he can make a difference to your 2015 running or any other activity. Currently Jas does group classes Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:30 at the center and you can drop in for only $6.00! This is an amazing deal that will provide you the resources to strive this year. I am not a salesman by any mean and but I believe in the resources we offer you. For more information on Jas check out his own website: http://smartstrengthandconditioning.com/. I highly encourage you to come on by on a Monday or Wednesday evening at 6:30 or next Saturday at 10am. Such a great opportunity. Time to go visit my Mother who I neglect way to much! Hope you have a great Sunday and week! God Bless! Mike
