Sunday morning Chat from New Hampshire

Sunday, July 10, 2016 · Mike Davis

Good morning! This morning I am sipping coffee and chatting with you from my in-laws home in Dover New Hampshire. We got to New Hampshire on Wednesday and of course the weather immediately turned cold and not so nice. Pretty much typical New Hampshire, near 100 one day and a 30 degree drop less than a week later. Such is the life in New England! The time here has been busy between meeting with NFLR clients, a couple group runs and dinner with the NFLR coaching team. Also did a few running form analysis as well! It has been fun catching up with clients and talking about all that they have planned as well as showing them the new tool we are using to provide them the best possible training. Wednesday we pulled into Dover at 2:30 and I went right to work. Headed to the Center to meet a couple and from there I met up with the Dover training group at the “7th Settlement Brewery” for a run. The only problem was I did not prepare myself for the run and as we got near the top of the hill on Henry Law, my calf told me I was a fool! Stupid, stupid! The run was not a good one however, I enjoyed myself immensely! I enjoyed seeing all the wonderful people that are part of the group and even NFLR’s Lew Ricker came by to run with us. Truly great to be out there running with the group. Unfortunately I had to dash right after the run to get back to the Center to meet with another client. Busy first day back in Dover but, lots of fun! Yesterday things at our Saturday morning run things went much better. I did all my typical running preparation and beyond a little tightness, my calf held up fine. While the temperature was considerably lower than I have run in, in some time, the humidity was considerable. Nevertheless, we had a great time! As important, I reached 50 minutes of running, which is an important milestone. Our new training tool has a countdown clock that lets us know how many days we have until a goal event and mine says I have 71 days until “Reach the Beach”. It also has a progress percentage calculator that lets me know how close I am too the time amount I want to be able to run. My training tool says my goal is 120 minutes and prior to yesterday’s run I was at 36 percent of my 120 minute goal. Thankfully I pushed myself over 41 percent with the 50 minute run. I have considerable work to do with the days passing quickly but, with good health I will get there. This training tool is an awesome system and one that will benefit all of the NFLR runners. As I mentioned NFLR’s team member for life Lew Ricker showed up Wednesday night for our group run and it has been a while since Lew has been with us. He has been devoting his time at a place called the “House of Hope”. Lew is currently helping to raise money for this worthy home through a road race and has asked NFLR to pass on the information. So here is the description: July 23, 2016 House of Hope Running For A Purpose 5K Vivvian Hussey School Berwick Maine Day of Registrations: 7:30am Kids Run: 8:30am 5K: 9:00am website link. http://houseofhopemission.org/ Sign-up page https://www.runreg.com/purpose5k House of Hope operates a fully functional soup kitchen, food pantry and transitional/sober living house between the communities of Somersworth NH and Berwick Maine. We serve a broad territory including much of the Southern Maine and New Hampshire. In 2015 House of Hope served over 16,000 meals to people of all walks of life, including those with addictions, disabilities and unemployment. House of Hope also keeps a supply of non-perishable goods on hand for those who cannot make ends meet. Due to an increase in services, we are hoping to move into a larger facility this year to meet the growing needs. Your generosity whether running or sponsoring the event, is greatly appreciated from House of Hope and those served. So if you are looking for a 5K to run and also support a great cause, sign up and enjoy! That’s it for today! I will be back down south tomorrow but it has been great to see just some of my friends. I will be back in August and hopefully see even more of my friends then! Have a great week! God Bless! Mike
