Sunday morning Coffee and Chat

Good morning! I hope you are enjoying your weekend. I must say that mine has been great so far as I started it off yesterday with a group run with some great people! From there we met with an enthusiastic woman who was visiting from the Cape and was interested in our online training. Meeting people like Cathy is really awesome because of the desire and passion she has to further her running. Our ability to coach runners both through our knowledge and interactive training plans/logs really makes a difference to those seeking structure, technical understanding and true personal coaching. I am so proud of what we have created a “No Finish Line Running” with the help of some great people. Our continued growth as a business has enabled us to help so many people realize their goals of becoming a runner, stay on track with their or taking their running to the next level. As the owner of “NFLR” I am determined to maintain a business that builds relationships while at the same time helping people accomplish amazing things. Often it takes more time and patients than some would like but if we can get people to hang with the process the results are even greater than they had initially desired. About 10 weeks ago a wonderful gentlemen came to us wanting to learn about our training programs and while blown away with our resources, he was hesitant because of the financial investment. We totally understand that the financial commitment can be a deterrent for some but the reality is that we cannot maintain a business without revenue. While revenue is a must our business model is also built on not being salesman, but instead we talk with folks and let them determine if it can work for them. Trust me, it is hard to see people struggle with the idea of the financial investment, so we do not push or even try to convince. Anyhow, the gentlemen emailed us the next day and said that he would like to sign on for the period of time taking him to a particular half marathon in 12 weeks. I was excited to work with him because he had such a passion for running and I believe he needed our disciplined structure. My partner Lew has come to really grasp the “NFLR” philosophy and technical aspects of writing a personal training plan so I asked him to write this gentlemen’s plan and then let me check it out before posting it to the client’s calendar. Well 10 weeks later here is the email we got after our clients long run: OK, I just killed it! The guy that came to you 10 weeks ago could not have just done the run I just finished. This was a practice half marathon, and I nailed it. The plan called for: 4 Miles @ 11:00 4 Miles @ 10:40 4 Miles @ 10:30 1.1 Miles @ "whatever I had in the tank" With great doubt, I headed out this morning. I kept thinking about Lew looking at my data. I thought "at mile 12, I've never got anything left in the tank. How can I do this?" Here's what I did: 4 Miles @ 10:55 4 Miles @ 10:38 4 Miles @ 10:27 1.1 Miles @ 10:06 Wow! I've only run 3 half marathon races before, and this one was my second best time--a practice run! Not only that, but I've never had a run this long, and improved my pace as I went. And last, other than a race, I don't think I've ever run that distance without a break or at least a slowdown. I've done plenty of long runs, but always with at least half-way break or something. I fueled as I ran, and I even crossed the highway twice and hit the traffic perfect so I didn't need to wait. The stars were aligned today. So, I could go on and on, but I just wanted to let you know how happy I am with my progress. I know my speed is nothing to write home about, but to see this progress and feel this strong is really encouraging. It hard not to look ahead and wonder what's next and what more can I do. Thanks Bill This is why “No Finish Line Running” invests time and money on education and other resources that enable us to make a difference. Bill certainly deserves much of the credit for his success but “Coach Lew” worked hard week after week to write a running plan that took into account factors that changed week to week or sometimes day to day. Without any pushing Bill informed us (even before this run) that he wanted to stay on as a client because he liked our structured training. How great is that! Well time to move along. Hope you have a great Sunday and an even better week. Don’t forget to check out Pilates either Wednesday morning at 6:30 or Thursday night at 5:30. God Bless! Mike
