Sunday morning Coffee and Chat

Good morning! I truly hope you are enjoying this beautiful weekend for me as I am on duty this weekend. The running joke for as long as I can remember is that whenever we have drill weekend the weather is going to be great! Well, I am okay with having great weather no matter what I’m doing, and hopefully you got to enjoy it! Yesterday was brutal but very special as well. General Carol Protzman, a top leader in the New Hampshire National Guard retired after a 35 year career. General Protzman spent most of her career moving through the ranks of leadership in the New Hampshire Air Guard, eventually becoming the first non-pilot to be named vice wing commander. Eventually she was elevated to commander of the NH Air guard and became a general. I have known the General for 25 years and have admired how she has succeeded despite not being a pilot which is no small feat. The ceremony was brutal from the standpoint of having to stand on a cement floor in formation for over 90 minutes, but in spite of that it was an honor to be a part of it. My feet, knees and back were killing me and I was relieved when the final words were spoken. A military retirement ceremony for someone that you respect is really something special and while my feet still hurt, it was great to watch the general be honored appropriately. This past week we begin our NFLR destination race training group and this will definitely be a unique opportunity. The nice thing about this group is that it will run long enough that you can jump in anytime over the next 3 weeks and still have time to train for either the half marathon or the two man relay. As long as you are at 6 miles (for the half training) or 2 to 3 miles (for the relay), you should have no problem training with this group and then enjoy a great race up in the beautiful White Mountains. Contact us for more information at info@nofinishlinerunning.com. Between track workouts, pub runs and other training runs we will have a lot of fun. Speed does not matter! Are you foam rolling? More often than not when I ask a client or any runner for that matter if they have a foam roller? The response is yes, but…. Foam rolling is a must and not just on days that you run. Our soft tissue and muscles take a beating from running as well as sitting and other activities and foam rolling is the best way to work out the tissue scarring and the muscle tension created throughout the day. 15 minutes a day of foam rolling may very well keep the doctor away or at least give your body some much needed relief. If you are in the Dover area Tuesday, come on out to the Dover high school track for a great workout. Great way to get stronger and even faster! Thursday night we will be at the Center for our Destination Race training group at 6pm, and you are welcome to join us. Time to get off to the base. Have a great Sunday and God Bless! Mike
