Sunday morning running
Sunday, July 26, 2015 · Mike Davis
Good morning! This will definitely be a quick cup of coffee and chat because I have to foam roll and get out the door and over to York Maine for the York Days 5K. Sadly my dog Roy has one of his stuffed toys and wants my attention but no time for that. I have already drank my water and had a cup of coffee with my wife so I am on my second cup of coffee and should be ready for an easy 5K. No PR’s today, just going to enjoy the run with whoever wants to run with me. Pretty pumped that there will be a bunch of No Finish Line Running shirts out on the course running! Not a great day weather wise but that is why running is so great; you pretty much run any time except for lightening. The lite rain might offset the high humidity so that’s good. Should be fun! This past week was a great week of running for me as I got in 4 good days of running and feel pretty good. Distance is still a bit of a struggle but having run 60 minutes on Thursday I am moving toward where I want to be for Reach the Beach in September. I don’t like getting consumed with being a specific place running wise but when I have events on the calendar I kind of have to be ready. Not a bad thing I guess. With 2 training groups going I am getting some nice group running in and I also am able to get some runs in with just my wife and on occasion I also get in some quiet solo runs, so altogether I am blessed. 10:54am Well we are back from the race and I am elated at how the race went! Lots of NFLR shirts and fantastic job by all. I am so proud of how strong everyone ran and definitely a great deal of improvement. Nice to see some of the Stonewall Kitchen group that Lew and Meghan train right there in York. Also got to see many other friends from the running community which is always a lot of fun. Special shout out to my man steady Jim Flynn who continues to get it done despite having a couple years on the coach. Overall I was happy with my race as my legs felt great as well as everything else. Oh yeah, this past week I stopped into Runners Alley Portsmouth for a long overdue pair of new running feet. I have been wearing Asic Nimbus for about 5 years and was not particularly happy with this last pair so I told my man Andrew Hubner that I wanted to do something different. Andrew asked if I was sure and I said yes, so he grabbed a pair or Saucony Triumph and after a little run through the store I was sold! I have not worn them 3 times and I really like them! Definitely difficult to move away from the Nimbus as I haven’t had good luck on multiple occasions when I experimented, but I am quite confident that this new pair of shoes is perfect for me. Like most runners I am particular about my running shoes because they do make a difference. This week we are as busy as every at NFLR. Come join us at the Dover high school track on Tuesday night for a great workout or come by the 7th Settlement on Wednesday at 6pm for a pub run and then be sure to hit Pilates in the Park on Thursday at 6pm for a great core and stability workout. The track workout is at 6pm and only a $5 drop in, the pub run open to all for nothing and Pilates as always is a great deal at $10 drop in. All great opportunities for runners and of course next Saturday we are at the Center at 8:30am for a run along the bay. We have so much fun and while having fun we improve our running a great deal! Time to get along. Have a great Sunday and see you on the roads! God Bless! Mike
