Thank God It's Friday!

Good morning. Grab your coffee and pull up a chair. Yes I am grateful that it is Friday! I have been the biggest baby this week with being tired and probably cranky. I have learned that being on any electronic device up to 2 hours before going to bed has a negative impact on a restful night’s sleep and I totally concur with that discovery. I am not a TV watcher so most evenings are filled with NFLR stuff on the computer and then some book reading before lights out. Somewhere around 2am I am awake and getting back to sleep is a struggle. Apparently that is exactly the time that the effects of electronic devices come into play. I have seriously plan out my evening much better. Been a great week at NFLR! Yesterday the Portsmouth Herald did a nice piece on us and totally captured the essence of No Finish Line Running. We are certainly grateful for the exposure we get and are pleased that the media looks at NFLR as the go to for local running expertise. We also had the tall task of having to replace our popular Pilates instructor, Erica Rice and thankfully we found another great instructor that we will introduce in the coming days. We are very lucky to find great instructors that really make a huge difference to all those that come to our Pilates class. Currently the class is at 6pm Tuesday and will be moving to 6:30pm the same night. Best deal around ($10.00 drop in)! We also welcomed three new clients to our individually coached runners. 2 of the 3 additions are a wonderful couple that blew our socks off during the free consult. They have such a great prospective as far as running for fitness and enjoyment. The 3rd addition to NFLR was a super impressive woman that wants to “run for life.” Nothing is sweeter than to hear someone tell us they want our help to insure they can run healthy for a lifetime. Helping with that goal is as good as getting someone across the line at Boston under 3 hours! So cool! During one of my travels I was looking at browsing the book store looking for something I could read and I came upon a book totally contrary to what I was looking for. The book is entitled: “The Power Of Habit,” by Charles Duhigg. Not exactly the entertainment that I was looking for but, I ended up walking out of the store with it. I have always been interested in how as a running coach I could help our runners create positive habits whether it be their running form, adding Pilates to their training, improving their nutrition or just the habit of consistent running in general. The list of productive and positive habits is endless and after reading the insider cover of this book I thought it would give me greater insight on how we can help our runners. I most definitely won’t be blazing through it but, I am enjoying it so far and have learned some interesting stuff already. The challenge will be how take what I am reading and help our runners in the various facets of their running. Hopefully as I get further there will be some practical guidance that will help. I have always wanted NFLR to view helping runners through intelligent training as well as thoughtful. Continuing to challenge myself and our entire team to learn concepts that help us to understand techniques and such things as how to create habits is at the core of what we are and always will strive to be. Time to get out of here and get my strength training done. Thanks for having coffee with me! Have a great weekend and see you on the roads! God Bless! Mike
