Thanksgiving is the best!

Good morning, pour yourself a cup of coffee and join me. I truly love the day before Thanksgiving, most especially the night before. It's nice to have a quiet evening, order a pizza, watch a movie and enjoy some calmness. Thanksgiving itself is probably my favorite holiday as I enjoy the concept of getting together with great people, giving thanks for all we are blessed with and proceeding to eat far to much of some of my favorite foods! Turkey, mash potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce and all smothered in gravy, followed by pumpkin pie. Coming up with the idea of combining a day of thanks with family and food was pure genius. Our Thanksgiving will be at little Francestown New Hampshire with my brother, his family and my mother. You can't much get more New England than Francestown and to celebrate such a meaningful day along side my Mom is really special. I don't see her near enough and look forward to giving her a hug! The weather is certainly going to put a damper on the many turkey trots and runs that people have planned for. I have no idea at this point what my plan will be, but I will get some type of workout it before I pull myself up to the dinner table. In the spirit of Thanksgiving I would be remiss if I didn't mention a few of the things I'm thankful for in relation to my running world. Running itself provides me with many physical and physiological blessings, keeping me both heart and brain healthy. Nothing better than having a passion for something that has the benefits that running offers. No doubt those two benefits are something I am thankful for, but without a doubt what I am most thankful for when it comes the running world is the relationships that are brought about through running. Each passing year I am introduced to more and more people through the running groups I coach as well as individual clients, and inevitably many become friends or even closer. The running community is truly amazing in that the common goals people have bring them closer no matter the different backgrounds. Initially you start out with a handshake and within months you are hugging that same person. People are so grateful for the help you give them, but are truly fueled by the encouragement. Over the past 6 weeks I have worked with a new mother and due to her current circumstances we will not be working together, but those few weeks were great and I enjoyed so much the relationship that we developed and the trust we gained in each other. That brief time is typical of just about all of those I work with and I grow so much as a coach and a person from each experience. Aside from running, tomorrow I will be with my wife and some of my family to give thanks for far more than one person deserves. It will be a tough day as I will miss my children but even more so I will miss my brother who passed in the early fall this year. Kenneth was "that" person who just smiled and loved unconditionally. He loved holidays that brought people together and though he battled some mental health issues, he never wanted anything more than to give you a back breaking hug! There will definitely be an empty spot at our Thanksgiving table tomorrow as well as in my heart. My final and biggest "thanks" goes out to by beautiful wife, as today we are celebrating our 14th year of marriage. I am so thankful for Kathy and everything she represents and I look forward to whatever God brings to our future years together! Happy anniversary my dear! I love you! Anyhow, I hope everyone has a safe and "Happy Thanksgiving". I am thankful for each and everyone one of you! God bless and come on back for another coffee on Friday! mike
