The Running Threesome!

Today’s run was another with my running partner Justin, but today we were joined by my beautiful wife. Funny thing, both Justin and I were glad to have Kathy with us as it would slow us down some. As much as we will tell each other to slow things down, we seem to push each other faster than we would like. It’s probably a guy thing, so having someone to pace us can be a good thing.

The weather was less than perfect, but better than yesterday’s bluster. We worked our way through the first 2.75 miles at an easy pace, but then Kathy decided to turn around. Great, now we were back on our own and we had in our minds to run another three quarters of a mile, turnaround and catch Kathy on our way back. So of course we picked up the pace and were off to the races! As we turned I think both of us were hoping to see Kathy sooner than later. As we continued to fly along, it was apparent that she went a bit faster than we anticipated. We have one pretty rugged hill that usually does me in and just before it; Justin commented that Kathy would probably be at the top. Mentally, that for some reason speeded us up even more. I looked at my Garmin and mid hill we were at 7:05 pace, but knowing Kathy would be at the top, meant slower running. We came flying up over the hill and not only was Kathy not there, but nowhere in sight! I was able to get enough breathe to say; we’re going to pretend that Kathy is here. We slowed down considerably but then we both thought we saw Kathy about a quarter mile ahead, so we both picked it up our pace. Wrong!! As we got closer, we realized it was not her. Now we were both wondering where the heck she was?

We finished and there was my bride bringing out Gator Aide to us. My hero! So, an easy 2.75 and somewhat blistering 4 miles. I felt stronger and that was encouraging, so hopefully my training is back on course. I may just do some strength training tomorrow and save my legs for Saturday’s long run. It’s been good having a running partner and hopefully that will continue.

Later ya’ll!
