Training Groups Abound!

Good morning and Happy 5th of July! Grab that favorite mug, fill it up and join me for coffee. I picked up some organic Columbian Rain Forest beans Friday and while a bit strong it is very good. I have definitely become a coffee snob as now I am very particular about my coffee and while I can’t always drink it exactly as I might like, I try to limit my coffee to organic, shade grown medium roast. While the taste is definitely important, my choice in coffee is driven by those factors that most benefit my health. I continuously seek out the perfect coffee and enjoy the never ending search. So anyhow, thanks for sitting down we me. Friday I hit on all we have going on at NFLR and I could not be more excited at being able to offer so many opportunities to runners. This Tuesday we begin our NFLR Advanced 10K group from the Center and this should really be a fun training group. While there is a requirement to be able to run 4 to 5 miles, that is all that is really required. This training will help anyone that is wanting to be stronger or improve upon their speed relative to where they are at. We are going to do regular track workouts, a couple hill workouts and a few longer runs. All specific to improving overall running strength as well as V02 max which is essential for getting stronger and faster. The beauty of this training group is that as long as you can run 4 to 5 miles it can work for you without any pressure of having to keep up with others. We design our training plans so that each individual can excel at their current level and their overall results will be based on where they are when they start and how much they are able to push themselves. Should be a lot of fun and I am looking forward to it! Another training group is in the final stages of development. I have mentioned that we have been wanting to set up a “destination race” training group and while we are not going far we are excited about this idea. Beginning the end of July we will be offering a training group that has multiple options culminating with the running of the “White Mountain Half Marathon” on October 25th. Not only is this race perfect because of the scenic (and flat) course, but runners can partner up and split the distance in half and run a relay. Our training will run 13 weeks so depending where you are at with your running you can focus on just about anything with this training whether it be a 10K or the half marathon. Kathy and I ran this race last year, staying up there the night before and the night after and we really had a great time. Really fun, not huge numbers, great shirt and really cool medals. So start planning now to be part of this “destination training group.” With all of these training groups going on there are so many options for people to jump in and benefit from the particular workouts we are doing. For whatever reason you can’t commit to a training group but you want to get into a particular workout please let us know and we will gladly try to help you out. Lots of people want to get out to our track workouts and that’s an option we definitely would like to make possible. Even on Saturday’s when you are looking for a group to hook up with for a decent run, we run along the Piscataqua River and have runners of all levels to match up with. While I enjoy running around New Castle and Portsmouth, being able to stay around Dover is a lot of fun! Well thanks for sitting down and having coffee with me or just hanging with me as I drank mine. Have a great week and get out there running! God Bless! Mike
