Wednesday Coffee and Chat from Central America

Good morning! This morning I am chatting sipping coffee and chatting with you from Central America where I am spending the week helping to educate some locals on our logistics processes as well as discuss their challenges. I have been here all week and somewhat confined to my hotel when not at the base and so my running has been all treadmill. I can honestly say that I haven’t minded the treadmill this week at all and actually got in a pretty good track workout yesterday morning. The hotel I am staying in is very nice and they have a nice size fitness room so there are plenty of treadmills as well as other equipment. I have pretty much stuck with running, followed by planks in my room. I have managed to be up plenty early and have been able to get my runs done and that is best because of not knowing what later in the day holds as far as schedule. In general I prefer morning runs because of the quietness and the pure enjoyment of starting my day off on such a great high. Another reason morning runs are best for me is because getting a run done first thing guarantees I will actually get my run done. If I don’t have an early evening training group to be accountable to, it can be quite easy to skip a run after work. Morning runs give me little time to make an excuse before I am out the door and moving. Definitely a good feeling after a morning run to know that I have started my day by taking care of my body. With August winding down and Labor Day nearly upon us, the weather becomes quite favorable for running. Lower temperatures and just as important; humidity levels become much more bearable. While it appears that we have some days still in the mid-80s coming in New Hampshire, the lower humidity should bring some relief. September also brings “Reach the Beach,” an annual relay race that is a favorite of not only runners around New Hampshire but, runners around the country. This will be my fourth or fifth year and with each passing year I am usually sure it will be my final one but, I continue going back. My body takes a pretty good beating between running 3 legs and not getting a lot of sleep. The event is a lot of fun because of those you’re sharing a van with for basically 26 or so hours however, it can task my 52 year old body quite a bit. This year I will try to be active on Twitter so if you aren’t following me, make sure you are by the 18th. Tweeting along the way allows me to share the inside of our van without having to actually be there. Tonight the NFLR training group runs from the “7th Settlement Brewery” in Dover. If you are looking for a group to run with, join us at 6pm for an easy 50 minute run. After some people hangout for dinner or a drink or two. Great way to get your run in and have some fun! Time to for me to get going. Have a great day and thanks for having coffee with me. God Bless! Mike
