Wednesday Coffee and Chat

Good morning! How are you holding up? I have to say after a wonderful run outside last night with our winter running group I am holding up far better than I was! Truly getting out with the Yaktrax attached to my shoes and good friends at my side, I really enjoyed navigating the snowy roads of Dover. In fact last night was the first outside run for me since I slipped and ended up with 18 stitches. No fear out there and it was not particularly easy without sidewalks available. Thankfully we ran along roads that were somewhat quiet and most vehicles were going along pretty slow so it was pretty safe. All of us seemed eager to run last night as the weather has holed us up for a good part of the past 3 weeks. I ran yesterday on the treadmill and I must say that it was much easier running on the snow covered roads than on the treadmill. I know that will only fuel those NFLR clients that complain about treadmill running. Monday night we had a gentleman in for a running form analysis and I have to say he went home a changed man! We videoed him and then went over some form adjustments and he got back on the treadmill and put them into action. I told Lew to run some more video and then Lew had the before and after side by side. Oh my goodness was it an amazing contrast and our customer was blown away by what he saw and more importantly felt. He was practically flying on the treadmill after some instruction and a few drills. When people ask us if it is possible to change, I now have a 53 year old man that showed how quick you can make a change and now he need only repeat what he better understands. Having a running form analysis is an awesome way to improve your form, become more efficient and expose some weaknesses. Our customer that night will tell you that it was worth every penny of the investment. So far this week is going as I hoped with 2 runs already and I am dressed and ready to workout over at the center this morning. I will be traveling later to North Carolina but hopefully Friday I will be able to get in another strength training and then on Saturday I am going to try to run with a local running club. It is never easy the following my having to work the weekend at the base, I am always tired, but getting my running and strength training in is always a big help. I will miss tomorrow night’s Pilates and that really sucks because as difficult as it is for me I really know it is helping me. I am so grateful that we were able to find Jasmin to bring professional strength & conditioning as well as a certified Pilate’s instructor in Erica. Having both of these resources has really been fantastic for the center and the seacoast. I must say that my coffee is really great this morning and it would be really easy to continue drinking it and stay inside where it is warm. Thankfully I do not have to shovel before heading to the center so that makes it easier. Like everyone else I have pretty much had to shovel 2 to 3 times a day and I probably have it much easier than most. Crazy few weeks! Time to get a moving over to the center and sweat some. Hope you have a great Wednesday and do not forget that you can drop in on the Pilates class Thursday night at 5:30. I can guarantee you that I might be the best thing you do all week. In 2 weeks we will be adding a Wednesday morning 6:30 Pilates class as well so those that want to do 2 classes a week or for those that find a morning class works better, you will have another great option. Chat with you soon! God Bless Mike
