Good morning! How great is it that we are nearly half way through the week! I am writing this pretty early as I am headed to our first morning session of Pilates. I am really thrilled to be able to offer an AM Pilates class and I believe that it will be a huge addition to the center. There may be no better way to start your day off outside of a good run than to work your body and feel your muscles being brought to life. Okay I know I will be on my mat dying through most of the class but I will also feel myself improving my core strength, my hips and getting a really great workout. I am definitely that guy that can’t quietly do my thing, but instead I flop around and bemoan my weaknesses. While some may consider me annoying, most actually seem to laugh thus encouraging my attempt to use humor to get through. Sounds like a great time doesn’t it! Sunday I went out for a 50 minute 5 plus mile run and I have to admit I felt like I hadn’t run in weeks, breathing like I had no cardio endurance whatsoever. That was pretty frustrating as the weather was nice and I really wanted to enjoy the run. Last night we had our winter running group and I have to say that the cold temps really had me feeling like the last thing I wanted to do was run. Our small group ran the Reds Shoe Barn 5 mile course and of course, I had a really good run! Why was that? Well seeing that I drove 13 straight hours the day before my run Sunday maybe my body wasn’t up to the task who knows. Last night I wasn’t mentally up to the task yet once the group got running I felt like my breathing was much better and I wasn’t struggling with finding my running rhythm. In fact I felt like my running form was pretty good and that my posture was where I preach to others about being. Probably it wasn’t as good as I thought, but mentally I felt it was and that helps a lot. I know I talked a lot to Art and he probably wondered when I would shut up, but I kind of felt like I needed to distract myself enough not to think about the conditions as well as keep myself at conversational pace. Whatever the case it worked and once again the group concept pulled me through. Program note: Friday night at the center beginning at 5:30 we will have a new running strengthening circuit class. You can show up any time between 5:30 and 6:15 and we will start you at a station and you can just move right through. The drop in fee is $5.00 and you will get an excellent workout. Wear or bring shorts and carry in sneakers. In all it will take you about 40 minutes to get a great workout that is geared toward strengthening your running form. Hope to see lots of people. Time to get off to Pilates. Hope I see some of you there. Have a great Wednesday! God Bless! Mike
