Wednesday Coffee and Chat

Good morning! Grab a cup of coffee and pull up a chair! Since I am out in Seattle, it is still relatively early here but most of you are a little further into your day than I. This is my first time visiting Seattle and thankfully I haven’t had to experience what my perceived notion of the state of Washington, in that it is always raining. In fact, they have had somewhat of a drought this summer and the landscape is kind of brown. The temperatures are comfortable but there is some level of humidity that I am also a bit surprised by. As I feared; between the long travel time, work schedule and other logistics, I haven’t been able to get a run in so far this week. I am hoping after today’s meeting adjourns I will be able to find a place to run. I could run outside of the hotel but it is quite busy and the sidewalks aren’t ideal. I will have to Google the area and see if there is a nice place to run that wouldn’t be too far to drive to. I don’t feel any great pressure to have to run, but it would be enjoyable to experience Seattle by foot. Last night Kathy and Lew covered the track workout and I am thankful to have such capable team members at NFLR. The track workouts have been really great and we may continue on even after this 10K Advanced group finishes up with Saunders. I like the track for so many reasons and our workouts are far more structured than most, so the runners get feedback that makes a difference. Most likely we will do something like a monthly rate as well as a drop in. While our workouts are not easy, I would say that most of the runners are really pleased with the structure and even have fun! It is so crazy to see the calendar and the fact that it is already the 5th of August! Wow! Tomorrow night (6pm) we will start of NFLR Destination Race training group. This is really going to be a fun group and one that offers something for everyone. The White Mountain Milers Half Marathon is actually the flattest half marathon course in New Hampshire and also offers a 2 person relay that can split it in half. Our NFLR group will train for both distances with the only requirement being that you are able to run 5 miles if you want to train for the half and 2 to 3 miles if you want to run the relay. This way we can insure our runners are trained in a healthy and strong manner. The group will run both Thursday nights and Saturday mornings (8:30) and we will do a lot of different runs as well as pub runs. Should be lot of fun! Tomorrow night will be mostly informational and possibly a short run. Come on down the Center and get information and sign up! Time to get ready for my meeting. Have a great day and see you on the roads! God Bless! Mike
