Wednesday morning Coffee and Chat

Wednesday, May 06, 2015 · Mike Davis

Good morning! Been difficult to sip a cup of coffee for any extended time and chat so I am hoping this morning I can do both. Just when I wonder anyone is following along my “coffee and chat,” I get a few emails of thoughtful encouragement. Nothing is better than someone taking a moment to pass along their encouragement and kind thoughts. I am now a week out from tearing my Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) and I feel that I am progressing well but I will stay the course and follow doctors’ orders to the letter. Right now I am at physical therapy twice a week and also supposed to be riding my bike regularly. The bike riding is probably not as often as it should but work has made that difficult. My knee feels about 50 percent better and at times even better, but at times worse. I am optimistic that my PT doctor is giving me the greatest chance to recover but the time frame isn’t as conclusive as I might like. I also don’t want this injury to nag at me because I tried to rush it so I will hang in with the patients’ part. Very difficult when the weather has been perfect for running. Yeah speaking of the perfect weather, how typical of New Hampshire is this latest turn in the temperatures. Last Thursday night I was riding my bike with the Portsmouth Runners Alley 10K training group and I was practically freezing and then Monday it was nearly 90 degrees! I guess it is nice that New Hampshire is living up to our reputation of ever changing weather! Totally perfect running weather though. Our No Finish Line Running Dover training group is actually going to do an outside Pilates session tonight down at Henry Law Park. The plan is to do 20 minutes of Pilates followed by 20 minutes of running. Should be a lot of fun and many will get to experience Pilates for the first time. I would like to say that the idea of doing Pilates outside is by design, however it I stumbled on the idea only because the Center is not available. Regardless I think it is going to work out better and will be quite enjoyable. Of course I will be on the sidelines healing my knee. Having resources such as Pilates that we can share with our NFLR groups is really awesome. Next up will be sharing Jasmin Lepirs’ strength and conditioning class with the group. All good stuff for runners to be exposed to! Time to get along and get my day rolling. I hope you have an awesome Wednesday and finish your week strong! Thanks for having coffee with me! God Bless!
