Wednesday morning Coffee and Chat

Good morning! Grab your favorite mug, fill it up and pull up a chair. Hopefully my “Adventurous Joe’s” coffee will wake me up and give me the boost I badly need to push through a workout and then the workday! Kathy and were in New York City for a couple of days for business/enjoyment, and while that was nice, it was tiring. I have not spent a lot of time in New York City and while it is a pretty amazing place, it is pretty crazy! So much going on and so many people and so much traffic. Hard to believe that we are heading into the final week of a couple No Finish Line Running training groups. Back in the spring we started a spring/summer training group that has already run one 5K and a week from Thursday will finish up with the Saunders 10K. That group has been a lot of fun and hopefully all of those that are a part of it will stay involved with one of NFLR’s other new groups. Our Advanced 10K group is also going to conclude with Saunders as well and while that group has trained for a much shorter time, it has been a blast being out at the Dover high school track every Tuesday night with them! Finally, the third group that has been running since the spring is the Stonewall Kitchen training group and they too will cap off their training time with NFLR by running Saunders. So once again we will have a quite a few runners dawning NFLR shirts as they run around Rye. Really awesome for us as running coaches to see all of our runners proudly running in local races. Last week a local newspaper magazine called the “Seacoast Scene” did a story on group training and most of it was centered on No Finish Line Running’s training groups and even had a picture of our group that ran at York Mane last month. Pretty cool story and great to have the picture included. The “Seacoast Scene” can be found for free all over the seacoast area at mostly restaurants. Of course I picked up a few as the proud CEO and coach of No Finish Line Running. This morning I am going down to the NFLR Center and push through the “Iron Strength” workout. Not easy on many levels, but I want to get more routine with it, so that means consistency. Some of the exercises are challenging not only on the effort part but also the movement itself. It will definitely take some time to get the some of the movements down, but over time I will. A challenge can be both frustrating and rewarding, so sticking with it is what is most important. As I mentioned recently, I want to use this particular workout for our NFLR runners, so I must become comfortable with it. The overall reward with this Iron Strength workout is much stronger running form from top to bottom and that is pretty cool. Schedule note: No Pilates in the Park this week and we will be moving it to Tuesday’s for the foreseeable future beginning next week. This change is because of our “Destination Race” training group that meets on Thursday’s, as I would like to give runners from that group the opportunity to participate in Pilates. If you want to jump into our “Destination Race” training group to either train for a half marathon or split the race with a partner and do a relay, there’s still time. Thursday night we will be at the Center or come on by this Saturday at 8:30am. Definitely a great opportunity! Time to get moving before I leave myself no time to workout this morning. I hope you have a great Wednesday and see you on the roads! God Bless! Mike
