Wednesday morning coffee and chat

Good morning. Grab some coffee and pull up stool. After a short visit to New Hampshire I am back in North Carolina. It was great to catch up with some friends and also cheer on our NFLR runners at the “603 Summerfest 10K.” As always I saw some running friends at the race as well and got to cheer on the pride of the Seacoast Andrew Hubner as he sprinted up Portland Ave. and crossed the finish line to win the race. Nice to see Andrew healthy and running strong. All of our NFLR runners (coaches included) moaned about the hilly course but, they were all prepared and ran great races. Dena Cutrone may have been the most pleased of our runners as she knocked 4 minutes off her best 10K time and on that course, that is no small feat. Nice job to all the NFLR runners! I considered running however I am confident that I made right decision to not chance it and enjoy being a cheerleader! Hills and calf injuries are not a good combination. This Saturday “No Finish Line Running” will be starting what I think is our best training group. Once again we will be training a diversified group of runners for both a 10K and half marathon distance in preparation for the “White Mountain Milers Half Marathon or Relay.” This is an awesome race that offers something for both midlevel runners and those that want to run a half. The race is October 31st in North Conway and we truly make it an event. Most the group goes up Saturday and enjoys North Conway, has dinner at the Spaghetti Shack and then Sunday morning we enjoy what I think is the best course in New Hampshire. If you are interested in training for the relay race but do not have a partner we will supply one for you. This is truly my favorite training group and last years’ experience was so much fun! We have a special price for the Hampton Inn and that works out great. Go to www.nofinishlinerunning.com to sign up and get more details. This morning I am sipping coffee and chatting from our screened porch with my boy squirrel hunter Roy by my side. The fact that he has yet to capture a squirrel or that the squirrel population has more than doubled in our backyard, does not make him any less a hunter. His hunting skills may not rid us of the pesky varmints but does provide us with a certain level of entertainment. Roy’s also protects my wife’s flowers from the deer totally devouring them and that can be fun to watch as well. Often the deer can be seen standing within a few feet of him while he looks everywhere but that direction. Today I want to get out and run 60 minutes. I now have my legs for “Reach the Beach” and my longest will be the middle of the night and it will be 9 miles. I am definitely not close to there yet and the time is passing quickly. My goal is to get to 90 minutes multiple times before “RTB” but, that will be a challenge for sure. Our team is coming together and while we may not win, we will have a lot of fun together. Okay, so we definitely will not win but, we definitely will have a lot of fun! Well that is all the chat I have today. Hope you have a great Wednesday and finish your week strong. Thanks for having coffee with me! God Bless! Mike
