Welcome Fall!
Sunday, September 22, 2013 · Mike Davis
Good morning! Today we say goodbye to summer and hello to fall! Sad to see summer officially gone but fall is a favorite season for many, especially runners. Fall brings apples, pumpkins, cooler temps and many great races. Unfortunately here in New Hampshire fall is like a blink of the eye and suddenly winter is on us! That's okay, as a runner I embrace the challenges of each season using the different conditions to motivate my running. For now I will enjoy the crisp autumn weather and changing foliage as I run. Last Tuesday evening myself and five others got together at Starbucks for the soul purpose of looking at the NFLR website and overall business to find ways to improve our services to all runners. Amazingly 2 of the people there pretty much donate their time to NFLR as they do not seek any compensation for their efforts. The NFLR team consist of coaches Jennifer Davis Miller, Lew Ricker, website developer/advisor Doug Mackinnon and yours truly. The other two that aren't officially on staff but are valued advisors are Bob Fernald and Katie Mack. Bob is not only on business savvy, but he is an experienced runner and the Seacoast best swimming coach. His insight offers NFLR many angles from the business prospective to the marketing side. Katie Mack may be the soul reason that NFLR has a website as almost 4 years ago she was a part of one of my training groups and it was during one of our runs that she encouraged (pushed) me to take the coaching business online. Katie works for a company called Imarc that develops websites for companies far bigger than NFLR. Katie's expertise and guidance have been at the root of NFLR development. With Katie's unselfish technical and professional guidance NFLR has continuously developed the website to what it is today and more importantly where it will go in the future. These 5 people bring NFLR many resources that will help to provide a running website second to none! The Tuesday night meeting had many goals but the focus was on making www.nofinshlinerunning.com more dynamic. As runners we all understand the value of going to the internet and finding resources to help us run faster, healthier and get more enjoyment out of it. Our focus at NFLR moving forward is to constantly provide up to date resources that will assist runners of all levels in those areas and more. We all know about the big company websites that offer resources and while they have some benefits we believe our personalized approach will serve runners far more specific to their individual needs. For example coming next month clients of NFLR will have their own page that they can log onto, check out their personalized running plan, update their log and get quick feedback from a coach. This addition will keep training personalized no matter the runners location. Also coming soon will be information about running gait and how to improve performance, efficiency and running healthy. The months ahead at NFLR will be exciting as we provide you the runners many resources that will empower your running. From day one NFLR was about empowering runners and we will never stray from that goal. If you have any suggestions please pass it on to us. We enjoy feedback and ideas. Another great resource is our bi-weekly NFLR Newsletter. Our newsletter is a great way to find motivation, learn some fun stuff and much more. Check it out! The week ahead with group training, client training and more. Soon we will be turning the calendar over to October which means running clothes start to change a bit, time to bring out reflective gear and maybe even long sleeve shirts. Definitely think about the shorter days and less visibility for those autos that we share the road with. You may start out a run with considerable amount of light but in a matter of minutes it can turn to dusk and you may not be so easy to spot. Enjoy your fall! Mike
