Welcome to March Coffee and Chat

Good morning, Welcome to March! No doubt all of us here in the north are happy to have February behind us and ready to move along to longer days, warmer temps and better running conditions in general. While the temps were still pretty low this past week, we had calmer days that made running much easier. Seeing the days get longer make a huge difference to me and this time next week we will have sprung forward so daylight will be plentiful in the early evenings. Definitely makes those 6pm runs much more enjoyable as well as safer. I can’t say I am a fan of the month of March because of the uncertainty of the weather, but we have to get through March to get to spring so let’s get it going! Yesterday our NFLR winter running group moved our normal meeting place from Juicy Roots in downtown Dover to our NFLR Coaching & Endurance Resource Center. Reason being we wanted to start utilizing the benefits of having a place to warm up and cool down as well as run along the bay. Juicy Roots has been great to us and we will certainly run from there again in the future, but with the running conditions not the best around the downtown this seemed like a good time to move to the Center. Crossing Dover Point road is the only obstacle when running from the Center, but once across the road we are easily able to get to Spur road where we are able to run on a fairly quiet road along the bay. This route is going to be a much used one for future groups as it has many benefits such as quiet, scenic, rolling hills and we can get just about any distance we want. I am so grateful that the Center has a location that works on every level. Parking, running and locality are all great and then you come inside to the perfect space to work with runners, strength train and conduct classes. Truly I feel this location was a God sent blessing. Yesterday’s run was a lot of fun as I got to run with Meghan one of my favorite people. Meg is an awesome runner and most times she will pull me along. Yesterday she told me that she wanted to take it easy and I was really good with that. The problems tends to be that each of us are trying to figure out who is setting the pace so there are spurts where we were going faster than either of us wanted to go. That’s when I start to use my Garmin a lot more as a tool to slow down my pace. Meg is such a good runner and competitor that she has to battle herself to reign in her natural inclination to go along at pretty fast pace. After we all got back to the Center we made health shakes for those that wanted and while they weren’t Juicy Roots shakes they were very good and full of good recovery. We may try to make some type of recovery shake available at the Center in the future as it only makes sense that we have something to offer runners after a run or workout. So overall yesterday’s first group run from the Center was a huge success and showed us that the location will be perfect for our future groups. Right now we are finalizing the plans for a Dover 5 and 10K training group that will start up in April and run through August. This group will run multiple races and be a great way to progress throughout the running season. I am really excited about this concept and look forward to getting the details out soon. Have a great Sunday and an awesome March! God Bless! Mike
