White Mountain Milers Half Marathon Reflection
Friday, October 30, 2015 · Mike Davis
Good morning! This week was a total blur to me and the fact that Friday is here is actually not as great a thing as it normally is. This week began with Sunday’s running of the “White Mountain Milers Half Marathon” as well as an extended stay up in the beautiful White Mountains. Four couples stayed an extra night after the race and were able to enjoy breakfast together Monday morning and then a beautiful fall day in North Conway. What an amazing few days with a bunch of runners and their significant others. The actual race did interrupt the social aspect of our time but, the race was a lot of fun as well. As planned my daughter (Jennifer) and I slowly eased our way along the scenic course with each of us slowing down the other at various times. This teamwork made it possible for us to chat comfortably the first 7 to 8 miles. Then came mile 9 and things started to become more challenging. Thankfully we came upon a farm that displayed a huge smile face on the roof and I believe that may have given Jennifer a bit of lift. From that point we coxed, encouraged and prodded each other to keep moving. Finally we entered the park where the finish line was and while we were both tanked, we took hands and ran for a bit and then rejoined our hands as we drew near to the finish line. Crossing the finish line hand and hand, my youngest daughter and I embraced for multiple reasons, none the least being we just enjoyed an amazing 2 hours and 10 minutes together. Yes 2 hours and 10 minutes may not be an amazing time but, we had an amazing time together. We stuck with our plan and the success would not be based on the time but instead the fact that we smiled many times and finished together. The “No Finish Line Running Destination Training” group was a tremendous success and certainly something we will build upon next year. Ultimately we would like to move the destination around but, next year we will most definitely be back in the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire. I am already looking forward to it! Couple NFLR notes: We will continue running at the 7th Settlement on Wednesday nights at 6pm and Saturday morning from the Center at 8:30am. November 14th we will officially start our Winter Running Group that will run through winter into April. This group will be $80.00 and will offer some unique opportunities such as your own personal online log that will be monitored by an NFLR coach. There are many other great details that are available and will soon be on the website. Next week there will be NO Pilates as our instructor will not be available. Be sure to come the following week on Tuesday night at 6pm. Pilates is a must! Time to get moving with much to do. Enjoy your Friday and have an awesome weekend! See you on the roads! God Bless! Mike
