Why an NFLR Training Group?
Wednesday, July 26, 2017 · Mike Davis
Good morning!
I hope your week is going well. I am excited that last night I was able to walk/run 4.5 miles! My calf is healing well and I am grateful for the direction that my son in-law has given me as far as treating it. Having a physical therapist in the family is a true blessing and Aaron is such a wonderful guy as well. I have not been as conservative as he has directed, but overall Aaron’s guidance has helped me get back to running. My hope is to be back to 10K distance by August some time, but I will stay patient.
This weekend the NFLR Spring/Summer training group will conclude their training with the running of the Six03 10K in Dover. This has been an awesome group to observe and one runner in particular. Most of the group have run the 10K distance in the past and there was no doubt they could train for this distance again. However, we had one woman that signed up to train, who believed she would only be capable of training and running the 5K distance. Well, last Saturday they all ran the race course and our one 5K runner, ran the entire 10K distance! How cool is that. I am not sure what distance this runner will run this Sunday, but she has certainly shown what she is capable of. While most of the credit should go to this runner, I also believe that the team of NFLR coaches have played a huge role in helping her build the strength and endurance she needed to run 6.17 miles! Nice job NFLR coaches!
We often discuss what makes NFLR training groups unique to other choices runners can choose to prepare for a particular event? Having been involved with training groups for many years now, as well as being a part of a large running club, I see some very important differences. NFLR has a team of RRCA certified running coaches, that not only lead group runs, but also uses our trained knowledge to help each runner succeed. Much like the woman that I mentioned above, NFLR is able to train any level of runner to prepare for any distance. Our science based training plans offer various training workouts that all have a specific goal, with the intent to develop a runner from their current level to the desired level. Clubs and other training groups all have great value, however, they are not designed to accommodate the various differences in levels of runners. NFLR builds our training based on proven concepts, that insure healthy and effective training. Our team of certified running coaches is large enough that we are also able to give a great deal of personal interaction and lots of TLC. Though some are better with the TLC than others. ??
With the completion of the Six03 race this weekend, we are excited to roll right into the start of our favorite training group! This Monday evening at 6pm, outside of the 7th Settlement Brewery, we will begin our NFLR destination group training. This is by far one of the best opportunities for all levels of runners, but definitely runners that want to have fun while training for either a 10K or a half marathon (13.1 miles). If you have never trained for a half marathon, I highly encourage you to come join us and experience something special! DJ Swallow will lead this training group and come October 29th, everyone will go up to North Conway, possibly stay overnight (optional) and then either run the White Mountain Milers Half Marathon or enjoy splitting the distance as a tandem relay. Either way, it is an amazing event and my personal favorite race. Three years ago, Kathleen and I ran it together and it was the best time I ever had! Detail can be found at www.nofinishlinerunning.com. This group meets 3 days a week and the training will include, track workouts, hill repeats and long easy runs.
Time to go strength train. Have a great finish to your week and then come join NFLR next Monday night!
God Bless!
Mike
