Here and There Friday

Good morning!

After a few more days more than I would have liked (hosted a friend), I got back to my running process yesterday. My first few runs consisted of alternating 1-minute of running with 1-minute of running for 35 total minutes. Initially everything felt great, however toward the final 8-minutes, I felt a little tightness in my calf. The tightness was not sharp or painful, so I am hoping after some self-myofascial release and an extra day of recovery, I will be okay. I may have not helped myself by shortening the walking intervals even by a few seconds. I will be more disciplined come Sunday.

This Sunday I will be following one of our NFLR runners (Jennifer), as she runs the Marine Corp Marathon in Washington DC. Jennifer has been a pure delight to coach, with her amazing attitude and easy disposition. Her training did not come without challenges, as she just gave birth to an adorable little boy only 10 months ago. Also, as she was in her peak training period, she suffered an injury that sidelined her for a critical period of time. After some PT and dry needling, she got back on the road and I adjusted her training and added walk recoveries through all water stops. Between Jennifer’s great attitude and her trusting in our training, she finished the training feeling strong and confident! We met Wednesday to go over her final days before the event and our race strategy. The meeting was great and fun as she brought her little boy Wally! As I was with Chloe a few weeks ago when she ran race, I will be a nervous coach cheering on a member of our family this Sunday 500 miles away! Go Jenn!

This weekend is going to be quite rugged in the Northeast as the forecast calls for a Nor’easter. Thankfully they are forecasting only rain and none of the horrible white stuff! I am ready to head south, but life circumstances have me staying put in the Northeast this winter. If this Nor’easter were going to deliver snow, I would have surely headed south on 95!

Yesterday I personally worked with Chloe on her strength training and I must say, I enjoyed it! Typically, we provide our runners a strength training plan and they do it independently. However, we now offer functional personal training one on one, and Chloe got to enjoy having me put her through some challenging exercises. Because NFLR is all about personalized training, while my personal training session with Chloe encompasses full body, it also focused on specific areas that she needs to improve her running. Great stuff!

Time to get along. I hope you have an awesome Friday and a safe and happy weekend!

God Bless my friends!
